Although most people believe that the United States has ONLY TWO political parties... We actually have more than seven major political parties now. The two most popular parties, Republicans and Democrats, are often referred to as "the lesser of two evils" by both sides.

Additional political parties, most often referred to as 3rd-party candidates, include: the TEA Party, the Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, the Independent Party, and the Independence Party. Candidates running without a political endorsement from any party are known as Independent Candidates.

The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a voluntary association of state green parties, and has been active as a nationally recognized political party since 2001.

The Green Party of the United States of America emphasizes environmentalism, non-hierarchical participatory democracy, social justice, respect for diversity, peace and nonviolence. Their "Ten Key Values," which are described as non-authoritative guiding principles, are as follows:

The Green Party does NOT accept donations from corporations. Thus, the party's platforms and rhetoric critiques any corporate influence and control over government, media, and American society at large.
